Creative Activities To Do With Kids

One of the best memories parents can give children is spending time together working on a project. Being able to bond over creativity is joyful and nurturing and should be encouraged in the life of every child. There are so many creative activities out there that can be done with kids, so we put together a list of some DIY craft kids that can be completed as a family. These range from building a terrarium together to making pottery, and are sure to deliver a fun learning experience for both child and adult alike!
This is the perfect activity for anyone who likes crafting, and this kit made by The Vase Co. comes with absolutely everything needed to make a beautiful and unique vase. The vase included isn’t too big or too small – it’s the ideal size to get started. The kit comes with four pastel colour paints along with gold metallic paint, as well as silver and gold glitter, paint brushes, sponge applicators, and detailed instructions.
To make it as child friendly as possible, the paint is permanent once it’s dried, meaning it doesn’t require sealant or being baked in the oven.
Ideal for older kids with a love of botanicals, this “In The Meadow” pressed flower DIY art kit by Florapeutic lets you make a gorgeous display piece. The kit includes pressed flowers (some of which are repurposed fresh flowers from events like weddings in order to reduce floral waste in landfills) along with freshly picked plants and farm-fresh local flowers.
Also included in the kit is a piece of textured cardstock in blue upon which you will arrange the flowers, and it will be put inside a wooden frame with a front glass panel. The finished product can be hung on the wall or stood upon a level flat surface.
Handmade by Zoe Campbell has a DIY Hair Scrunchie kit that includes brightly coloured fabric, a needle and thread, elastic, two safety pins, and detailed instructions. Making these scrunchies is not only the perfect creative activity to do with your kids, the scrunchies themselves will look fantastic in any hairstyle once they are finished!
It should be noted that these scrunchies can also be completed by sewing machine if you so prefer.
If you’ve ever wanted to try your hand at decorating gorgeous (and tasty!) gourmet cookies without having to do the baking yourself, this is the activity for you! This Paint Your Own Boho Girl Cookie Gift Box, made by My Cookie Shop, contains cookies that are handmade and freshly baked in South Australia using quality Australian ingredients.
The box set will include six cookies with different patterns, along with an edible paint palette, paint brushes, and sprinkles and sprinkle glue.
Ceramics is a great activity to get into with your kids, and Baked Earth Co. has a wonderful starter kit that’s meant for two people. You’ll be able to choose from two different kinds of clay: mediclayte (speckle) and white clay. The former has a bit more texture and is great for quirky, funky designs, while the white clay has a smoother texture that’s great for patterns that have a little more depth.
The kit has everything you will need to make your own ceramics creation. Note that this is an activity better suited for older kids, as there are some tools required throughout the process.
Making candles can be a wonderful way to pass the time with your kids, and this DIY Candle Making Kit by Harakeke Candles gives you everything you will need to make three wonderfully scented candles in black candle tins. The wax in this kit is natural soy wax, and you will be able to choose your preferred fragrance for the candles.
This is another activity that is best suited to older kids, as it requires weighing the ingredients and using heat to melt the wax.
Making a preserved moss terrarium can be done with kids of all ages, and the best part is that you’ll have a lovely terrarium as a finished product. Two Fish & me has a large selection of DIY preserved moss terrariums, such as Serenity.
This kit includes a glass jar, base layer pebbles, a selection of different preserved mosses, feature pebbles, and easy to read instructions.
As you can see, there’s simply no shortage of fun, creative activities you can do with your kids. While some of them are better suited to kids over the age of 10, some are perfect for kids of any age and will ensure hours of enjoyable, educational bonding between you all.
