ABOUT MO RESIN
The name is simple, but the concept is so much more. Husband and wife duo Mo and Sandrine are the artists behind MO Resin, a small family owned business using resin in the craftsmanship of their contemporary jewellery range.
A CREATIVE MUSE
The history behind MO Resin is as intriguing as the product itself. Born and raised in Paris, Artist Mo studied painting and sculpting at the influential art school Ecole des Beaux-Arts. Throughout his studies, the belief that art is intertwined in everyday life was paramount.
A life changing trip to Australia paved the way for the next chapter in Mo’s artistic career. Mo and his wife, Sandrine, and their four children moved to Sydney and their children would eventually play an important part in the MO Resin family business. The studio where MO Resin jewellery is designed and constructed is tucked away in the Southern Highlands. The fresh air and peacefulness are the sources behind Mo’s creative muse; a place where he can seek inspiration and focus on his interest in the interactions between light and materials.
WHEN RESIN AND LEAVES COLLIDE
In 2010 Mo began to experiment further, infusing delicate Dutch silver and gold leaves with epoxy resin. He would remain captivated for long enough to find a way to create distinctive designs melting the leaves together with translucent epoxy resin. In 2013 Mo began to work with Indigenous Artists, collaborating to construct one-off pieces of wearable art. Throughout Mo’s career, ethically sourced materials and processes have remained central to his work.
Resin is a capricious material, meaning every piece is entirely different. This is one of the distinguishing features of MO Resin jewellery, and one that Mo and Sandrine are most proud of. The delicacy of the gold and silver leaves means the journey to creating each piece is exceptionally intricate. It follows a somewhat technical process whereby the insertion of a design by Mo onto a gold or silver leaf is then melted into epoxy resin. The result is something rare and totally unique.
